Manxman Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 Should my car ( 2001 TDi Ford Galaxy ) have an external temp display as part of the screen between the two dials on the dash unit? The handbook suggests there should be a temp display but the book covers different models .. If there should be one and nothing appears, could it be a backlight bulb problem? Compliments of the season to all the wise men and women on this forum. Keith .. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 In 2001 the only model to get the graphic display as standard was the Ghia so unless yours has had te clocks changed then I would say no :( what display do you have inbetween the clocks? low fuel, low washer fluid, door ajar warning, service due, bulb failure? these are all part of the graphic display units read out if you any of these and not the low air temp display then either the unit or the sensor is dodgy! Quote
seatkid Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 Compliments of the season to all the wise men and women on this forum. you must be on the wrong forum...... AFAIK External Temp display is only available on the Climate Control Panel, but I may be wrong. Arent all galaxies fitted with black ice(4C) / ice(0C) warning though? (2 illuminating icicles towards the centre top of the instrument pod) Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 AFAIK External Temp display is only available on the Climate Control Panel, but I may be wrong. The external low air temp warning is part of the graphic display package, without it you use your head and think jeez it's cold enough to freeze out so lets floor it through these bends and see what happens :o ahhh! thats whats happens ...............NURSE MORE DRUGS PLEASE :( AND WHERE'S MY LEG? Quote
Bigjeeze Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 Your'e both right! - I have a an outside temp display in the centre of the instruments along with the computer etc but I also have a display for outside temp in the CC unit - although the dash unit shows up to 1/2 a degree the CC unit shows whole degrees only. Quote
Galaxy Man Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 In my Gal(1.9 tdi 1997) what should show on the display between the dials(other than the norm, oil etc)? If I replaced the instrument panel with one with CC would it all work properly? When I asked Fords about the instrument panel there were loads of different model numbers available for my car, I would not know which one to get(though at the price Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 If I replaced the instrument panel with one with CC would it all work properly? if it was the correct one yes! but changeing out from one with CC wont do a thing as it's not the CC that is linked to the clocks, what you need to check is how many plugs are in the back in your existing clocks one or two? one is for a standard set up two is for the graphic display set up, I would imagine that with enough time and the correct parts/sensors it could be done? you would need the multi plug from the loom of the correct model and then wire in the sensors as you see fit IIRC it has been done or someone? one of our overseas members has or is still doing it? he was asking for info on the washer fluid bottle sensor IIRC Quote
Manxman Posted December 12, 2005 Author Report Posted December 12, 2005 My display shows 'door ajar', 'low fuel' , 'handbrake on', 'oil warning' etc so does it mean I should have the outside temp and ice warning display too? Those symbols all appear in the top half of the display . If I wanted access to the back of the display unit is it easy to get in there? Does the curved panel above the clocks lift away for access? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 Not as easy to get too the rear of the clocks on a MK2 as a MK1, as the steering wheel has come off IIRC? as the screws holding the steering column shroud on are behind the wheel :( you may be able to get to them though by turning the wheel and removeing them one at a time? once the column shroud is off the clocks are held in place by a couple screws from under the dash :o then IIRC they just unclip at the top and pull out  have fun :o Quote
Dally Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 Mk2 = Steering wheel must come of to remove shroud - fact! Quote
Galaxy Man Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 My instrument panel only has one plug on the back. There is a spare 6 pin female connector doing nothing tied in with the cables, would this be used on a new panel? Quote
